| 14.9 Substantivation of comparatives and superlatives |
In English all comparatives and superlatives can be used as nouns.

| The better of the two will win. |
| The best will win. |
| The fastest arrives sooner. |
| The fastest arrived after three minutes. |
This works the same in French, however, due to the form of the French comparative there is no differenciation between the comparative and the superlative in substantivated form.
